Japanese cinema, with a long history of great filmmakers, has a lasting legacy on modern films around the world. The story telling of westerners and many lighting and coloration techniques have been adopted by the innovative filmmaking of Japanese Yakuza films from the 1950s and 1960s. Modern animated films are deeply influenced by Studio Ghibli's magic as well. When you think of Japanese cinema, you think of Miyazaki, Kurosawa, Suzuki... but there are many other great films waiting to be discovered.
